Weststar will soon become a popular household name after few years of pain and gains. By industry Weststar in Malaysia encompasses aviation, automotive, oil and gas and engineering.
Weststar who made history by becoming SAIC’s first ever overseas joint venture partner, will begin receiving the CKD vehicles beginning August this year and assemble them at their facility in Klang and Port Klang with an initial capacity of 2,000 units. The plant will gradually increase its capacity to 10,000 units annually.
Weststar Maxus Distributors (initially Weststar LDV Distributors) has been the Malaysian distributor for the full range of Maxus commercial vehicles since 2006, supplying 80 per cent of its volume to the Government Agencies and the balance to the retail customers.
Weststar Maxus, who also holds the distribution rights for the entire Asia Pacific region, including Japan, plans to launch the Maxus van in Indonesia and Thailand in early 2012. We are also looking into markets in the Philippines, Indo China and Vietnam.
The Weststar Maxus team expressed confidence that the new Maxus will hit the market. The new Maxus V80 boasts an exciting new European designed facelift and the latest 2.5L TDCI Euro4 engine, while the body features new and strict design principles, including the “2mm Body Gap” tolerance, a first in the commercial vehicle segment, further adding to the sturdiness and safety of the vehicle.
As promised in my earlier blog article, few sample units of the new Maxus will be made available in our showroom at Jalan Tun Razak possibly after Hari Raya. Even though our local production will only begin in October, you can start talking to our sales guys on your purchase plan. We have not even started local production but some one dozen enthusiasts had already made commitment to this vehicle.
